i live i san francisco, definitely looks like our capital.
i kept waiting for the cameraman to fall over or the camera to wobble; one point the smoke is blowing right into the camera lens!
pretty sure it was opium as well as what looked like rifles. big chinese gangs around then, good trade in opium.
sigh, wished they burned all that stuff outside these days! ;)

I sure would have liked to have been there to inhale some of the smoke from that fire!

Not very interesting
Although I'm sure there's an intriguing story behind this, the film really doesn't look that great. A couple of guys throw a match into a pile of wood, and we see shots of it burning. Flames don't look nearly as exciting in black and white.

Opie on the stake!
Silent footage of the police?? burning some Opium rather openly it seems. I guess this might have been some type of display to show that This Type Of Behavior Will Not Be Tolerated! Pretty interest, for what it's worth.

.A delight to see this natural addictive poison destroyed
.Unfortunately production of opium and thence heroin has increased in the last two years to a record high and it is cheaper.

Opium Destruction, San Francisco 1914
Some early 20th century narcs examine a huge haul of opium, then burn it all upÃÂÃÂbwa-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!!! (Sorry.) Although this was supposedly filmed in San Francisco, a building that looks suspiciously like the Capitol building in Washington lurks in the background. I'm sure conspiracy theorists would have a field day with this, as well as any 1914-era druggies who were in drifting distance of the smoke.
